Let’s Meet The Hosts!
If you’re new here, I just wanted to take a second to say “Welcome” and introduce myself. I’m Christene and I’m so glad you’ve decided to stop by. Consider this your virtual welcome into my home. So step inside and grab a cup of coffee!
I’m passionate about all things home. Decorating, organizing, creating, renovating. You name it — I love it! I believe that your home should be a haven for your family. A place where everyone is comfortable and feels welcome.
My home style is what I like to call “Modern Classic.” It’s a little bit of traditional and a little bit of modern mixed together to create a fresh and casual atmosphere.
I’m finishing Christmas home tour week with our traditional fresh Christmas tree.
Each year, Ben and I go out and get a fresh Christmas tree. There’s just something so fun about going out and hunting for that perfect tree. And the smell of a fresh tree in your home is amazing! This year we picked out a Fraser Fir tree.
We live in a townhome, so the spot right when you come up the stairs is perfect for a Christmas tree.
It’s in the middle of the house and you can see the tree from all of the main rooms.
It’s also really fun to get a sneak peek of the tree as you are walking up the stairs into the living room.
When it comes to our Christmas tree, it’s less about themes and more about traditions. We like to keep the decorations simple with clear lights and all of our treasured Christmas ornaments.
Every year, I look forward to getting the Christmas ornament boxes out of storage. And as we open each one, we get to reminisce about our Christmases from years past and all the memories.
Both Ben and I grew up collecting our own Christmas ornaments. We have a variety of ornaments from our childhood and also many that we’ve collected since we got married.
Each ornament is unique. Some of them are sentimental, others have stories associated with them. Some are from trips we have taken or places we’ve seen, and others are just ones that we liked or thought were pretty!
Throughout the tree, you’ll also see many Shiny Bright glass bulbs. We have probably 4 different sets of these retro-inspired ornaments. They help to fill in any ornament gaps and they add just a little more sparkle!
So, our tree is a combination of all of those types of ornaments.
It’s fun to sit on the couch and just gaze at the tree. Each time we look over, we’ll spot a different ornament.
Let me show you some of them up close.
One of my family’s favorite vacation spots is Hilton Head Island. This ornament is from the trip where Ben and I got engaged. We got engaged at Harbor Town which is where the big red and white lighthouse is located.
This miniature cake is actually a tiny replica of our real wedding cake. I found an artist on Etsy who sculpted and created this cherished ornament for us.
This tiny train set is Ben’s from when he was growing up. He loves to line up each car on the perfect tree branch every year.
One of Ben’s family traditions was that each year they received a new ornament for Christmas. Here is his ornament from Christmas 1991.
This mercury glass Santa is a replica of one of my Dad’s favorite ornaments. He gave each of us our own Santa for our tree.
This ornament is just one of my favorites because I love the colors and sparkle that it has. It also reminds me of making gingerbread houses growing up.
I’m a big Disney fan (nerd) so there are numerous “hidden Mickeys” throughout our tree – like this little one.
Speaking of Disney, Ben and I both love EPCOT, so our course we have a tiny version of Spaceship Earth for our tree.
Wall-E is one of our favorite Disney movies. We first saw it when we were dating and have an attachment to it. So we couldn’t pass up this Wall-E and Eve ornament for our tree.
Ben has a number of fun Star Wars ornaments on the tree from his childhood. These are really cool because they plug into the light strand and actually light up on the tree!
Last year we got a pet pawprint ornament kit for Widget. This is the first year that we’ve gotten to display Widget’s adorable pawprint ornament on the tree!
For some reason, Ben and I both love mushroom ornaments. I know, kind of weird. I was trying to think of a way to explain it but really there’s no explanation. I guess we just think they are pretty or something. We have a few of them scattered around the tree.
This ornament is one we got for our very first Christmas as newlyweds. I know that it will be a cherished one for years to come.
Our traditional Christmas tree is the centerpiece of our home during the holidays. Decorating it is a family tradition that I look forward to each year.
